Overview

This course is designed to provide an overview of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, exploring the benefits and challenges that AI presents for teachers and students. The course is divided into eight modules, with each module focusing on a particular aspect of AI in education.

Module 3: Curriculum Design with AI

Module 4: Improving Teacher Workflow with AI

Module 5: Innovative Assignments with AI-Proof Design

By the end of this course, students will have a solid understanding of how AI can be used in education and will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to implement AI in their classrooms ethically and effectively.

Logistics

Course Credit: This course is accredited by Southern New Hampshire University as a 3-credit graduate-level course. Registering for course credit is optional, and all students will receive a certificate certifying the hours spent (30 hours) for use towards CEU or PD credit.

Asynchronous: The course can be completed at your own pace with a recommended pace of 1 module/week. All course content and assignments can be completed at any time.

Office Hours: Instructors will hold regular office hours throughout the course term for live opportunities to go over questions, brainstorm ideas, and discuss the future of education.

Discussion Forum:  All students will have access to an exclusive discussion forum where they can discuss course materials, share lesson plans, and engage with other students taking the course.

Assignments

The course assignments are designed to help educators develop the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to integrate AI into their teaching practice effectively. Throughout the course, teachers will complete a variety of assignments, including creating lesson plans, assignments, and assessments that use AI tools and techniques. They will also analyze the ethical and social implications of using AI in education, reflect on the potential of AI to transform education, and evaluate the effectiveness of AI in streamlining administrative tasks, grading, and feedback. In the final capstone project, teachers will annotate a syllabus with how they would integrate AI in their class and reflect on how they will use it to streamline their teaching practice, including assessment, curriculum development, and workflow. This final project will allow teachers to apply their learning and demonstrate their ability to effectively use AI in their teaching practice, as well as demonstrate their understanding of the ethical and social implications of using AI in education.

Nina Bamberg
Director of Curriuculum & Instruction, PedagogyVentures

Nina Bamberg has an MA in International Educational Development from Teachers College at Columbia University with a concentration in Peace and Human Rights Education. Her professional background includes teaching English as a second and foreign language, non-profit program management, and adult education. 

As the Director of Curriculum & Instruction at PedagogyVentures, she develops and leads professional development workshops and courses designed to help educators navigate the changes and challenges posed by artificial intelligence. Some recent workshops and courses include AI, Human Rights & Education, AI & Education Summer Boot Camp, Designing AI-Proof Assignments, and AI for the ELA Classroom. She also leads a team that develops and disseminates curriculum and policy resources and conducts research on AI policy and governance. 

Nina also serves as the Director of Programs at United 4 Social Change, a non-profit that aims to increase access to an interdisciplinary civics education through curriculum resources, professional development, and student leadership workshops. She also serves as a course associate at Columbia’s School of Professional Studies and as a Citizenship Educator at The New York Historical. 

Nina is also a member of several professional coalitions working to improve access to quality civics and AI literacy education, including Democracy Ready NY and CivxNow, where she’s an active member of the AI Work Group.
